Here is the AAR and scenario elements for the battle of Smoliany (nov 14, 1812) that we played last december. After the fall of Witebsk to the Russians, Victor's IXth corps is moving north to check Wittgenstein's march against Napoleon's line of retreat from Moscow.
On the left, the Russians are crossing the Lukomlya river and take position on a central hill. At the foot of this hill General Major Vlastov's vanguard is watching the approaches of the village. On the right, French forces attempt to cross a small stream in front of Vlastov. Partouneaux's French division is coming toward Smoliany with Fournier on his left and Girard's 'Polish' division froming the right wing. Maréchal Victor, commanding the IXth army corps, is with Girard in the center. The Lukomlya can only be crossed at the bridges and the stream fordable to any troops. But you can also consider the river as frozen and fordable. You should base your victory conditions on the percentage of loss and the fact that French line of retreat is the road of Senno or the one to Chereya and the Russians' is to Chaschniki.
Partouneaux's 12th division – 10 inf battalions, 5 skirmishers, 1 foot and 1 horse batteries + Col De La Roche's cav brigade on the extreme left of the French line.
Girard's 26th division (4 Saxons batt ; 6 Polish batt ; 5 skirmishers ; 1 foot and 1 horse batteries + Delaître's cav brigade on the extreme left of the French line. All the Poles are rated as « Elite », or « Superior ». And 2 cav rgts too (French players secret choice) Between the 2 allied divisions, an artillery reserve made of 2 heavy and 1 foot batteries. Victor, Partouneaux and Fournier are « Good » and Girard is rated as « Excellent ».
Vlastov (Average) – 6 Jägers batt ; 4 skirmishers ; 2 cav rgts (« Superior » hussars and dragoons) ; 1 horse battery
Prince Jachwill (Good) - 2 inf battalions (2 are rated Elite), 3 skirmishers, 1 foot and 1 horse batteries, 1 hussars rgt and 1 converged cuirassiers
General Leutnant Berg (Good) – 8 inf batt ; 2 opolchenie batt, 3 skirmishers, 1 foot and 1 horse batteries, 1 uhlans rgt and 1 dragoons rgt
French troops are crossing the stream in front of Vlastov
In the center, the French get the initiative and are in their way to take good positions before the Russians managed to take the planned offensive.
The Saxons and Poles take positions in a small wooded area and on a small hillock at the crossroads.
A powerful Russian battery open fire from the ridge on Billard's French brigade advancing to unite with Girard's left wing. At the same time, Vlastov push forward on the French in Smoliany.
The Russian right wing with the battle for Smoliany.
The allied line is well anchored but the line is too long and too weak so they can't try any offensive actions. Then the Russians win enough time to prepare their own attack...
...wich is done soon after.
On the right, Vlastov and Partouneaux are engaged in a terrible fight.
… mais la pression de Berg est trop forte. Il renverse l'aile droite de Girard et vient même menacer l'artillerie française.
